I feel lucky to have lived thirteen years in Punjab, India and the past nine years in California. My work is inspired by the lifestyles, the languages, the politics, the struggles, and the people I have spent my life with in these two cultures.
In the process of adapting and thriving in these two cultures, I at times experienced great support and other times, a lack thereof. During the challenging times, to protect myself, I chose to close myself off from any discomforts. In this effort to be safe, I lost my ability to deal with those hard times.
But then art came into my life.
Acting and filmmaking have allowed me to take refractions of my life to create content that is full of substance and fun. Ideas appearing at unexpected moments, finding the essence of my characters, blending beauty with ugliness, and creating simplicity from complexity is what I live for.
My first short film explores our struggle to deal with memories and our willingness to continue to move forward in life.
In this solo piece, I explore how one is born into a structured society and how does one get out of it. To create their own path.
In this short film, I'm exploring the reasons why when we get to financial and career success that we lose connection with our roots.
